Taxation and Social Benefits System

The taxation system and benefits systems are extremely complicated and difficult to work out. Various arms of government carry out various functions, from the collection of revenues, to the payment of benefits and these arms of government rarely speak to each other.

Therefore, this lack of communication fails to identify those claiming benefits illegally whilst working, those paying too much tax, those paying not enough tax and those who are eligible to claim tax relief but are not aware.

This is why we propose the following:
     ·         A full review of all current taxes, such as PAYE, national insurance contributions, business rates, council tax, corporation tax, value added tax, tobacco tax, fuel tax - this review will ensure the tax rates are appropriate and that the tax itself is still relevant
    ·         The creation of one government body responsible for the collection of taxes and the payment of benefits
    ·         The creation of a new computer system documenting the taxes due and eligible benefits
    ·         With the new computer system would come an online function whereby people would be able to calculate personal tax and make payments online
